“Sir Ernest Shackleton’s name will for evermore be engraved with letters of fire in the history of Antarctic exploration” – Roald Amundsen
Colour leaks out of the streets as bits of gardens dribble down the paint-streaked walls. A city full of rainbows and emotions. It bursts with confusion, clutter, poetry, and jumbled up streets that climb the hills next to the Pacific. Valparaiso – warmly referred to as ‘Valpo’ by many Chileans, is my final destination in South America.
It was the perfect morning, lazily wandering around the random trails, exploring the inlets and hidden picnic places, a nice way to say gooodbye to one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
I’ll be back one day, land of fire! Farewell Tierra del Fuego ❤️…
I forgot to post about the amazing penguins I got to walk around with out at Magdellenas island from Punta Arenas. But here it is!
I love to climb mountains. Hiking up through thick forests, into a peat bog and onto the windswept, barren ridge, Cerro Guanaco was a beautiful hike, yet contained many challenges – as most mountains do!
“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul…”
The mud was incredible! Up to my knees in some parts and boot sucking, squewlchy (is that a word?), sticky, muddy mud! We were so thankful the hostel, Cruz del Sur, lent us the gumboots, even though our feet ached and complained all day, it saved us a lot of hassle, and kept our feet somewhat dry!
Ushuaia claims to be the most southernly city in the world…. right at the tip of the American continent facing across the Beagle Channel towards Antarctica, it feels like you’re at the end of the world (which you pretty much are). Especially when the rain is falling and the wind doesn’t just whip around you, but bites through your layers and goes straight through you. It’s an exciting place
Is it just me, or are graveyards full of intrigue, mystery and totally interesting places? I thought I loved walking around cemeteries already, but when I heard the Punta Arenas one is in the top ten attractions of the city
I climbed another volcano today. It was an amazing shape, and very pretty with stunning views.
